How to Join the Mithril Knights
As written by our Guild Master, Lord Elbren, with modifications for current requirements.
We are 100 percent roleplay based. To become a Mithril Knight, you must roleplay becoming a Mithril Knight. Specifically, you must:
- Play a warrior character.
- Petition the Knight Marshall. This must be done via email. Include your character name, a brief history, and your TORC user name. See the Guild Officers page for contact information.
- Through your RP writing, ensure that you are following the writing guidelines of The Prancing Pony Inn and the TOS of TheOneRing.com. Yes, the Guild does require excellent writing skills.
- Once you are assigned a Mentor Knight, it's time to write! You and Mentor Knight (and any other Knights or Knights in Training who may be writing with you at the time), coordinate a roleplay tale of adventure where you display your writing talents and knowledge of Middle Earth. This roleplay tale goes in the MK Knights in Training Thread at The Prancing Pony. Normally, the Guild Master tasks the Knight(s) in Training with a quest or errand. It is the responsibility of the KiT(s) to complete the mission in their KiT tale. It is also the responsibility of the KiT(s) and Mentor Knights to stay abreast of plot developments. I prefer that OOC comments NOT be used on the TORC boards. Communication between KiT and Mentor Knight is crucial to this RP tale coordination and success. If your Mentor Knight cannot be reached or if you are confused, then you should contact the Guild Steward as soon as possible.
- As your Knight in Training thread develops, your Knight Mentor will keep the Guild informed of your progress. When it comes time for the tale to come to an end, the Guild will determine if your character is ready to Initiate or needs more training adventure/writing. Some KiT tales are lengthy, (especially when we have multiple KiTs participating--just par for the course), while others move much faster. The pace is set by the KiT and Mentor Knight and is to their discretion entirely. We've had some KiT tales take several weeks, even months, to complete; while others take no more than two weeks.
- If your Knight Mentor presents you to the Guild for Initiation, you will then be given a written test, via email, that will explore your knowledge of Middle Earth history and geography. Obviously, this is an "open book" test and believe me, ALL of us use Tolkien's texts, the Atlases, etc, when we write :)
- Once the test is taken and passed, objections will be asked for by the Guild Master, and if none arise, you will then Initiate at a Guild House in roleplay.
- We will explain the Initiation process to you in full when that time arises, but all Guild Initiations are at The Prancing Pony.
