Annals of the Mithril Knights: The Sixth Chapter

Knights in Training: Journey to Radagast

Parador, Nenya

Elbren

Elbren sat in the Lothlorien Guild House, sharing a pitcher of dark Elven ale with his Guild mates Erinhue, Idril, and Mirdain. It was a soft, spring afternoon; and the three were laughing amongst themselves as they played a game of dice.

"It's nice to be able to just sit back and laugh," one of them voiced.

"Agreed," Elbren nodded, "it seems that we get too few of afternoons like these."

"Is that a hint of gloom, I hear?" Erinhue asked, grinning.

Elbren seemed to think for a moment, not yet ready to speak, "Well, if you must ask...matters have arisen that may require a band of Mithril Knights to...travel."

"That is not so odd, is it?" Idril asked.

"No," Elbren shook his head, "I received a report from the Guild House by the Sea that disturbs me. I will go straight to the point: The Mural that tells the tale of Luthien and Beren has changed, and that only happens if something is shifted in the actual Great Weaving."

"Meaning?"

"Meaning this: the Mural has shifted to show that Beren was slain by Morgoth and that Luthien became his slave. You all know how grave that could be if the Weaving solidifies and becomes reality."

"But...how?" Idril exclaimed, alarmed.

"I don't know, but we all remember how Turin used the trance to go to Nargothrond and try to change events there," Elbren replied, "perhaps someone else has learned how to use the trance and has gone to attempt---"

"Getting a Silmaril!!"

Elbren nodded gravely, "We all know that there are others who know how to travel using the trance method. It seems to me that someone, or a group of 'someones' has traveled to the lair of Morgoth and has changed the weaving in their attempt to take a Silmaril."

"So we must go back and make sure that the past happens as it should?"

"You know the Oath; we can change nothing. But, we can act to prevent change."

Mirdain sat with the others at their meeting. He was feeling quite excited and proud of the new position offered him, and he hoped he would be able to perform the added duties effectively. The idea of a new adventure, especially in the first age, seemed just thing to take his mind off this new euphoria for a bit. As soon as the meeting was concluded, he meant to thank Elbren once again for the honor.

Elbren

Elbren asked both Erinhue and Idril to stay for a moment once the meeting was concluded.

"I'm expecting some guests," Elbren explained, "they should be arriving at the city gates of Caras Galadhon very soon. They will be taught our history and shown our creed; and Eru willing, they will join us on our path."

"And who are they?"

"They are not far even now. A lord and a lady," Elbren pointed to Erinhue, " You, mellon, will mentor the lady; and you," Elbren smiled at Idril, "will mentor the lord."

Idril

Idril was surprised at this latest development and yet, she was always excited for a new challenge! She was a bit surprised that she would be in charge of mentoring another male rather than the female. She looked at Erinhue. He seemed a bit surprised also that he would mentor the female. But to mentor a Lord? She looked backat Elbren with a questioning look on her face.

When she left the meeting, she was met by Mirdain and she told him of this new assignment. She saw a look of what she thought to be displeasure and hurt cross his face. She thought that maybe she had misread his face. They were walking under early evening stars when suddenly Mirdain surprised her by grabbing her hand and holding it as they walked along. They walked under one of the mellorn tree's and stopped. They both leaned back against the tree and looked up at the star's, staring at the constellations.

As the two of them sat there, Mirdain pondered the new inforations about Idril's mission. He couldn't hlp but feel a little, jealous was it? that she would be giving so much attention to another man in the near future. He couldn't bring himslf to say anything to her, though. Why must I think this wa? Is this right?, he thought to himself. Looking at the stars, he whispered, "O Elbereth," so softly that no normal person could've picked it up. But, Idril's keen elven hearing caught it and she gave him a puzzled look. Feeling inspired, Mirdain said, "I want to be a star, like Earendil, and see the whole world, to have people remember my story for ages. Wouldn't that be great?"

"Easy there," she replied, "too much ambition can lead to your downfall."

"I suppose you're right" he said looking at her, then added, "always the mentor, aren't you?"

She smiled coyly and said, "not always. You know, you don't the whole world to remember you, as long as I do."

Mirdain's grin at that moment went practically from ear to ear, and he impulsively gave her a big kiss on the lips.

erinhue

Mentor the Lady to become a Knight?" Erinhue was a bit taken back by the idea. "That is not what first comes to my mind in dealing with a lady but if that's how you want it I am certain you have good reason, Mellon. Mentor the lady I shall and I will do my very best to see she becomes one of the finest among us."

Erinhue showed his customary bravado but his feelings were a match for the look on Idril's face. Just how was he to prepare a lady to become a Mithril Knight? Putting on one of his better smiles the bard asked Elbren. "She does know her way around the working end of a sword Or shall I have to learn to fight with knitting needles?

Parador~J

The sun began its nightly ritual...resting gently on Arda's horizon...The loyal horses, Luinsul and EŠrglin, carried Nenya and Parador through the city gates of Caras Galadhon...The journey had been long and ardent...Nenya looked to Parador...he saw in her eyes the last days ride weighting heavy upon her...she was a strong knight, more determined than most...but, none the less a 1000 mile journey dose weary the mind and soul...he reached over to her touching her arm, giving her a look of confidence and a reassurance that all would be well...he loved her with all that his heart had to give...

She smiled warmly to him...she looked forward to the new road that lay ahead of them...to train as a Mithril Knight was of great honor...Legend's told of such a place back in Doriath...at last they were here...

Lady Idril and Mirdan's attention were drawn to the sound of horse hoofs clipping on the road leading up to the Lothlorien Guild House...Mirdan instictively took Idril's hand and looked on with a quicken heartbeat...they both witnessed the new guests arrival... Idril looked to him and smiled...a smile that melted his heart....slowing it down a bit...

LuinSul halted at the guild house steps, followed by EŠrglin...Nenya leaped to the ground,...walking over to Parador he took and lifted her from Luinsul's back...taking her hand they walked up the stairs and into the Lothlorien Guild House...

Elbren

Elbren had ensured that a modest feast had been prepared for the two new Guild members; word was sent to Erinhue and Idril, along with the rest of the Knights currently in Lothlorien, that a dinner in honour of the new members was being held that night in the Guild House.

Upon their arrival, Nenya and Parador were shown their rooms within the Guild House and allowed the time to rest, bathe, and relax before the dinner party was convened.

However, upon the ninth hour, just after the Star of Earendil had arisen in the night sky, the Mithril Knights came together within the dining hall of the Guild House.

Upon the table was venison flavored with rosemary; chowder freshly made from trout caught within the Silverlode that very morning; freshly baked breads with olives baked within; fruits and nuts, and wine in magnificent silver goblets.

Elbren entered the Guild House and made his way to the Dining Hall, taking his place at the head of the table. The other Mithril Knights came to stand behind their chairs, as did Elbren, awaiting all to arrive before they were seated.

Elbren smiled at Nenya and Parador, gesturing towards two empty seats near him, "Welcome, please, you will sit here. We only await the arrival of a few more of our Order."

They did not have to wait long; soon they were all gathered. Elbren nodded and then spoke a verse from the Mithril Knights' Code of Honour, as was customary at such gatherings, "Courage and honour endure forever. Their echoes remain when the mountains have fallen and crumbled to dust."

Another Mithril Knight replied, "A Mithril Knights' word must have the validity of a signed and witnessed oath. Thus give thy word sparingly, but adhere to it like iron."

They all nodded and then took their seats as the food began to be served...

Idril

The Arrival

At the kiss, Idril had responded in kind, returning it unsure of why or where all this affection was coming from. They sat hand in hand for some time. As the two newcomers rode by, Idril mentioned to Mirdain that she thought she knew that these were the two her and Erinhue were to mentor. Mirdain seemed to relax quite a bit after the kiss and he seemed unphased by the news of her mentoring some other guy. He seemed to know that her heart was his, as his was hers already. They knew that a dinner would be arranged for later so they reluctantly seperated and went to their respective home's for some rest and to ready themselves for the dinner.

A Mithril Knight's Dinner

Idril had readied herself with care. She wore one of her best dresses and her Mithril Cloak to the dinner. She had crowned her head with 5 small braids and then made one thin long braid down her back and left the rest of her hair loose underneath the smaller braids. She wanted to look nice for Mirdain and hoped that he would be able to sit by her, as was his custom.

She arrived at the Guild Hall and hung her cloak up then made her way into the dining hall. She was eyeing the place a bit differently now knowing that she was responsible for this wonderous place and all its contents. And she smiled as she saw the other Knight's, shaking hands with some and nodding to the others. She took notice of the newcomers and she nodded as her customary place was halfway down the table. She wondered if Elbren had other 'reasons' for this dinner. It was rare that they were all together at one of the Guild House's so the dinner was not to surprising. They probably had much business to conduct.

They said the 'Customary Code of Honour' verse's, they sat and dinner was being served to each of them when Elbren began by making introductions.

Tempest

Tempest took her seat at the table and glanced around at each new face, smiling gently at those whom she recognized. Her own face seemed different than before, as if the hard lines had somehow softened with time. She even managed to surpress her normal withering look at Erinhue, nearly causing the bard to choke on his food in suprise.

Elbren

Elbren nodded at Tempest as she took her seat; he was very glad to see her at the meeting and hoped that she would accompany them on their newly appointed task. An icy shiver ran up Elbren's spine as he thought of where they must go: Thangorodrim. The throne of Morgoth. The bowels of Middle Earth.

As he looked up, he saw Tempest watching him; her eyes spoke that she had seen his fear.

"I thank you all for coming tonight," Elbren said quickly as the talk quieted around the table, "and as some of you have surmised, I do have some announcements to make. First, let me introduce our two newest Guild members, Sir Nenya and Lady Parador. They will be mentored by Lady Idril and Lord Erinhue. Please make them welcome."

The Mithril Knights clapped and indeed did make the two new members feel very welcome and at east. "Anything that you need, Sir Nenya and Lady Parador, will be provided by the Guild. Your Knight Mentors will ensure that you have the proper equipment at all times. Now," Elbren continued, "we have a few more matters. First, Lord Mirdain and Lady Idril have recently accepted the task of being the Lord and Lady of this Guild House. On our last adventure, which took some of us into Mirkwood and then into the fortress of Angmar, we brought back several relics of power. They are now housed here in safety, and for this time, shall remain so."

Murmurs of approval and voices of congratulations were given to Mirdain and Idril. A toast was made and more wine was poured.

"But," Elbren began again, "a summons has been sent out to our Guild maters who are not here tonight. Soon, we must make all haste to the Initiation House and make a journey that none of us, probably, has ever thought to take."

Elbren could not but help look over at Tempest as he spoke, "Need will take us to the very fortress of Morgoth. We must enter the trance and journey back to the time of Beren and Luthien. We must ensure that their tale is not changed."

Silence sat upon the dinner table like a hammer of steel. "Something has happened?" voiced one Mithril Knight.

"Yes," Elbren nodded gravely, "the Mural that portrays the tale of Beren and Luthien is changing in the Initiation House. Someone who knows how to travel the ancient paths is attempting to alter the past. We must stop them."

"Does this excursion involve a visit to Morgoth's fortress?"

Elbren's eyes turned again to Tempest; he answered simply, "Yes."

Parador~J

Nenya reached over taking Parador's hand in his and smiled...she could see that he was pleased to be here...she returned his smile

As she listened to Lord Elbren speak, her mind took another path...she was thinking of the warm reception both she and Nenya had received from the valiant knights,...their kindness made it easier for them in feeling welcomed...The hospitality was more than they had hoped for...a warm bath and rest helped restore her energy...for she would be needing it...

the road that lay ahead of her and of Nenya's, would become well worn...a road traveled with experiences of the heart, mind, and soul...A path she looked forward to traveling on...

Parador continued to listen intently on every word Lord Elbren spoke

erinhue

With a slight nod to Nenya Erinhue spoke directly to Parador.

"Greetings and Bright Blessings to you Lady Parador. I am Erinhue of Belfalas, bard by trade, warrior by chance and it is I who shall serve as your mentor in the Guild. I daresay that you might have a bit more fun with me than you might have with, say Orodreth over there." Erinhue flashed her a dazzling grin and winked one sea grey eye at her. "Don't tell him I said that though.

Before we go further I should make another introduction." Turning to the wall in back of their seats he called up, "Say hello to the lady, Agarak we shall be traveling with her and I want you to behave."

*In a special alcove created especially for it stood Erinhue's harp, a green/gold harp fashioned in the shape of a little winged dragon. A spark of light flared up in it's jeweled red eyes. The tiny light rolled withing the jewels and seemed to focus on the woman seated near to its bard. A few notes that almost seemed to speak a word of greeting, sounded from the instrument's untouched strings.*

Elbren

When the meal was completed, Elbren spoke again, "Lady Parador and Sir Nenya, your mentors will now take you to the Guild Armory and help you select gear for your training. Time presses upon us; the Knights will depart within three days to Morgoth's lair. Your mentors will prepare you as best they can. If any of us can be of assistance, please just ask."

Elbren then leaned over to Idril and Erinhue, "Spend much time with them in the map room and make sure they are familiar with the territory to which we will travel. On the morrow, take Lady Parador and Sir Nenya with you both to Dol Guldur; Radagast awaits you there with some items for our upcoming quest. Do not tarry in that place for very long; we depart in 3 days, I want you both back here for the quest."

Idril

Idril was surprised to be mentoring Sir Nenya, as she had heard much of this name in Middle Earth. She was quite honoured to be his mentor. Across the table she nodded and spoke with her new 'squire' and yet she wondered just WHAT she would be able to teach him. She was up for the challenge that it would bring.

She offered to show him around the Guild House in and among more congratulations from her fellow Knights. Her and Erinhue gave them the 'grand tour' of the House. Then without further adieś, she led them to the armoury. She thought that since there were only 3 days to be ready for this excursion, that there was no time like the present to outfit the newest members. So she opened the great doors and in they all walked.

erinhue

every mannor of weapon, all types of armour were neatly arrayed in the front portion of the large doubled room. From the entrance the disorganized heaps cluttering the back could be glimpsed. There were helms of gold and shields of mithril silver and many items that did not at first glance appear to belong.

There were simple looking cloaks and a display case with medalions and even several rings with minor gems inlayed. On the wall just opposite the entrance was the emblem of a shield with the words of The Oath of the Mithril Knights etched into it.

Erinhue stood with Idril and let the new squires gaze about for a moment or two.

"Everything here is of the finest quality and there are some few magic or enchanted items included although I couldn't tell you which was what. There is als everything you could need to outfit yourself for the road, you may chose what you want and take what you need. Of the weapons and armor here you may choose only one item. We are pressed for time so we cannot allow you what we might for so important a choice and so much to pick from, but chose you must and do not take too long with your decision."

He winked at the new squires and Idril smiled and then the two mentoring Knights stepped out of the room and dissappeared down the hall, leaving the squires alone.

Parador~J

Nenya returned the nod to Erinhue...so this was to be his Lady's mentor...having never met the bard by trade before...he knew they would get along fine...for he too carried a harp...he had sang many a beautiful songs to his lady on special occations

Parador reached out to touch the golden harp, as her fingers came near she could feel the harp's music begin to play from the untouched strings...the notes sang warmly in her heart...

she was amused as Erinhue suggested that Agarak behave herself while on their journey...she was trying to picture the harp behaving badly...the harp seemed to be able to tune in to whenever the person's heart desired to hear

'you have a beautiful harp Erinhue...I hope you will let us have the honor of hearing your songs while on our travels'...The Bard smiled...'it will be my pleasure Lady Parador,...a journey without music is like,...let's say,...um, yes'...he lowered his voice...'like having Orodreth has your mentor...once again, don't tell him I said that'...winking at her...

After the delicious meal was over with, Lord Elbren explained to the new squires that they would be accompanying Erinhue and Idril to the Guild Armory...to select their new gear...both Nenya and Parador nodded...Nenya stepped forward...'Thank-you Lord Elbren, not only for the kind hospitality but, for the chance to prove ourselves worthy to join rank as Mithril Knight's'...he bowed to him, followed by Parador...Elbren returned the bow...'We are glad to have you with us...please remember, if there are any questions or you need help...do not hesitate to ask...we wish for your success as much as you do'

After giving the squires the grand tour of the house, the four of them left the warmth of the Lothlorien Guild House and headed toward the Guild Armory...Idril with Erinhue's help, opened the massive doors,...the sound of the heavy doors opening, beaconed them to enter...Idril enter first, followed by Erinhue...Nenya looked at Parador and smiled...he gestured to her to enter first, followed by his entrance...

Erinhue explained the task at hand...they were to select the armory they would be needing for their journey and to not take to long with their decision's...giving his Bard wink,...he and Idril walked out of the room...their foot steps faded as they decended down the great guild hall

NenyaofDiadron

Nenya took a glance around the armoury. His gaze returned to Parador, and when their eyes met Nenya put his arm around her. They began walking through the armoury, taking a closer look at some of the items. "It's too bad we left our supplies in Gondor." Nenya winked at Parador and she smiled at him. Nenya reached for the hilt of his sword, Celebanar. "We both have our swords, but no armour. I prefer mail, rather than a chest plate," he said as he brushed his hand across an iron mail shirt.

He sighed, his eyes searching for mithril... He thought to himself, 'Mithril knights...they've got to have mithril mail...' Parador smiled at him, and slid a rusty chain mail shirt aside, revealing a beautiful coat of mithril. He grinned, and picked it up... "Hmm...Looks exactly like the one I left back in Minas Tirith."

Parador~J

Nenya picked up the mithril mail...eyeing it with respect...he looked at Parador and smiled...she could see he was satisfied with the finding of the silver steel...

Parador walked around, admiring all the weaponry and shields...she had her sword, TśrRuin, strapped to her waist...her hand touched its hilt instinctively...and as she did so, her eye glimpsed an object hanging from the east wall...she walked toward it not taking her eyes off of it...the shield was of a beautiful mithril texture...the flame from the Torches anchored to the east wall, were dancing off its sleek surface...it was plain in its design yet, she saw the beauty of its simplicity...Nenya came up from behind her and whispered in her ear...'I see you have found your shield'....his tall stature allowed him the ability to reach up and take the mithril shield down...he looked it over admiring her selection...'well done Melissenya,...and I also have found you this'...she reached out taking the true silver gently from his hands...

'Thank-you Nenya...we can use the cloaks we brought with us from Gondor'...he nodded in agreement...

erinhue

When a suitable shield was found Nenya and Parador emerged from the armory. Erinhue met them in the hallway.

"Hmm I see you have each made fine choices but you forgot my only instruction. I told you to take what you wanted from the road gear, supplies, and clothing, but you must choose ONE item from among the weaponry or armor. The swords were your own so they are not in question but........" The bard let the sentence drop as he turned around to leave. "Idril and I have sent for all our horses and we will wait for you in the courtyard."

Idril

Idril and Erinhue left the two newest squire's standing together as they made their way to their horse's. She was not sure what Erinhue had started to say, but she had a guess. She also let the new squires choice's stand, as she felt that they would need them going into the First Age. They would need all that they had chosen and more ... they would ALL need the Blessing of Eru!

She smiled at Thalion as he threw his head and winnied as he saw Idril, still putting on her Mithril Cloak. Just a couple minutes behind her and Erinhue came Sir Nenya and Lady Parador and they took notice of both of their cloaks.

"This is the cloak of a Mithril Knight. You will each receive one once you have passed the initiation." They all mounted and just as they were ready to start to ride, Idril said one last thing.

"One last thing that I want to say before we ride, something that you need to consider while riding. It is like another unspoken 'code' of sorts that we all live up to. It is something that has not been said, but because of where we travel in 3 days hence, I feel it needs to be spoken aloud now.

"A Knight is sworn to Valour.
His or her heart knows only Virtue.
His or her blade defends the helpless.
His or her might upholds the weak.
His or her words speak only truth.
His or her wrath undoes the wicked."

There is much to learn in a short time ... let us ride."

Erinhue sat looking at Idril while she spoke the words that he also held in his own heart, as did the other Mithril Knights. He was surprised that she voiced them, but he understood the reason she did. They were unsure of the journey ahead and what it would hold ... for any of them.

NenyaofDiadron

Nenya, Parador, Erinhue, and Idril set out from the Lothlorien Guildhouse on their horses. Their pace was relaxed until they were a distance from the the gates of Caras Galadon. The horses hooves quickened. They dashed through the grove of mellyrn trees, seeming as only swift rays of light. Even after Celeborn and Galadriel had departed, the city remained grand. The magic had been left in the land...

Before long, they forded the Anduin at a shallow crossing in the Drimrill Dale. The water was freezing cold, but the horses were unphased. The sun was setting upon the Misty Mountains in the west. At the eastern bank of the Anduin, the four horseman stopped. Erinhue suggested they camp off the bank of the river. "Our shadows grow long, and our horses grow weary. We should camp here, and have supper before there is no light to eat by." Nenya dismounted EŠrglin, and quickly walked over to Luinsul, helping Parador off the mighty steed. Both horses nickered before they bent their heads over and began feeding on the grass. Idril summoned Nenya to her, bidding him to go gather some dry firewood. Parador, Erinhue and Idril unloaded their gear, giving the horses a break. They set up the cookware, and began preparing the meal.

Nenya came back with a bundle of wood in his arms. He laid them down, and set up a fire. "I need a tinder box," he said as he crouched over the pile of wood.

Parador~J

Parador remembered having a tinder box in her Satchel...she had brought the box of stones with them as part of their gear when they left Gondor...finding the box for him,...he was able to start the fire...it crackled loudly echoing out into the air...the warmth of the fire was soothing to the tired riders...

Evening had fallen quickly...the air began to chill as the sun of Arda lowered behind the Misty Mountains...the last of the rays filtered through the giant tree tops across the Anduin River...

After dinner was over...each found a comfortable spot to settle in...they had laid out their bed role's earlier...Nenya laid up against a large boulder with Parador leaning against him...they each had their cloaks wrapped around themselves...Idril sat across from them next to the fire...Erinhue was close by with Agarak in his hands...the small dragon harp began to play softly...bathing the night air with tranquility...

Erinhue spoke to the squire Parador first...'Tell me Lady Parador...what brings you to us...why the Mithril Knights?'

she looked to the Bard thoughtfully...The Mithril Knights are a legend spoken of in reverence...The people of Gondor have nothing but respect for the Knights who have sworn to protect not only the people of our time but, to protect our present from our past...and to guard against enemies seeking to change that which has already taken place...a dangerous balancing act you might say...the knights are also known for their skills and bravery but, above all...they are known for their services rendered and the strong Camaraderie that exists between them'...Parador looked to Idril and then back to Erinhue...as she did this, her thoughts of Idril's 'Unspoken Code', that she had spoken of earlier to Nenya and her, were to become her companion...honored words she would not forget...

Nenya nodded his head in agreement as she continued...'Nenya and I have thought long upon our hearts to join this legendary guild...for it is not a role to be taken lightly...as knights of Gondor...we have always taken our duties and responsibility seriously...I seek not a name for myself nor do I seek for the glittering gold...in this a knight is left empty while he thirst's endlessly to be made full...I seek only to serve and protect others...and for the Privilege to add to my knowledge of what I thought I already knew'

Taking the cloak off she raised herself to her feet, making her way to the warmth of the fire...the shadows of the fire skipped across her face...she bent down to one knee gazing into the fire while deep in thought...she then looked to Erinhue and Idril again...'I do have other reasons for joining the Mithril Knights other than what I have mention...I was taken from Gondor as an infant and raised in Ered Luin which is known as the Blue Mountains...it wasn't until later while in my youth that I learned of my past...not all was revealed to me...the shadows of my past elude me...a past I hope to visit one day'

Parador stood again...Erinhue nodded to her as did Idril...she bowed her head to both Erinhue and then to Idril and walked back to Nenya...he held his hand out taking her hand in his...she smiled as their eyes met... guiding her down next him...he placed her cloak back around her shoulders...

Idril spoke next asking the Elven warrior of his reasoning to be a part of the Mithril Knights...'and you Nenya...what say you'?

NenyaofDiadron

Nenya sat for a moment in silence, staring into the fire... "All that I could have said, has been said for me. In serving as a Knight of Gondor, I heard rumours of the Mithril Knights. With the downfall of Sauron and the end of the Third Age, lore of the deeds of the Mithril Knights grew. You couldn't roam through the peaceful streets without hearing some mention of the Mithril Knights.

I am devoted to knighthood, and I also am very fond of mithril. I grew up in a place where mithril was bountiful, everything was made of mithril. I long to return to the mithril halls, and once my duties here upon Middle-Earth are fulfilled, I will be returning to my kingdom, Diadron.

Not only am I devoted to knighthood, but also to my lady. She greatly wished to join you here, so I decided to accompany her. She is my love, and my life." Nenya looked over to Parador, gazing deep into her eyes. The beautiful night sky was reflected in her eyes...

Parador~J

A band of ominous Clouds began to take shape off the northern skyline...the morning sun had yet, to reveal its rays of light over the Misty Mountains...a cold breeze blew off the towering trees settling down below where the riders began to stir...

Parador awoke to the pleasant sound of Agarak strumming her velvety strings...Erinhue was up and packing...with Idril finishing up...

Nenya came up from behind Parador whispering in her ear...'maararin melissenya, it is time for us to leave...we have a long road ahead of us'...standing up he stepped over her...taking her hand he brought her to her feet...

Erinhue spoke...'yes, we have a hard ride ahead of us...we must make haste...Elbren expects us back in a few days...so, gather your things quickly...we will eat along the way'

They both nodded to him and quickly began to pack their bed role...Luinsul and EŠrglin were eager to get started...they both mounted their horses...Erinhue and Idil took the lead with the squires close behind...the roads were narrow, not leaving much room for maneuvering...they rode fast and hard...the winds began to pick up...the smell of rain was in the air...each was hoping the rain would stay its hand just a little longer...at least until they could reach Dol Guldur

Elbren

Radagast made himself as comfortable as he could within the ruins of Dol Guldur. The Elves of Lothlorien, namely Galadriel, had done a superb job of sealing the ancient fortress after the War of the Ring; but those who knew the correct words to speak could enter the walls, though the deeper places were sealed to all but a few.

The Istari was concerned about many things, but the message from Elbren and the Mithril Knights that the past had somehow been altered and that Beren had been slain, thus changing the fate of the Silmarils, was at the forefront of his ancient and sharp mind.

In his pack, Radagast had some of the ancient scrolls from the Mithril Knight's Guild House in Mirkwood; within them lay many words concerning the Silmarils and their eventual fate in the sky, earth, and sea...

Idril

Idril rode with the others all the while thinking of what was to come and all the scenerios that could befall them. She kept a close eye on the storm that was brewing overhead and Prayed to Eru that he would hold the storm off for awhile yet, till they could get to Dol Guldur. She was afraid that the storm would hit though, long before that.

The wind picked up as Erinhue and her pulled their Mithril Cloaks around them tighter and Parador and Nenya did the same. The wind had a bite to it as if it were off snow capped mountains and it wind whipped their faces. The horse's all kept snorting to clear their nose's of the freezing wind. It was an unusual thing this wind, so cold. Idril wondered at its origin as they kept moving.

Parador~J

The cold wind continued to wraps its icy fingers around the four riders of Caras Galadhon...the storm was persistent in gathering its strength while the rain tried to hold back the heavy down pour...Erinhue rode ahead of them to scout out the road in Mirkwood Forest

Luinsul and EŠrglin rode along side each other insulating what warmth could be generated between Nenya and Parador...Idril was holding her own at this point...both the squires sped up along side the Mithril Knight...she looked to them and nodded with encouragement

With the heavy overcast, they would not have the light of the sun to guide them thru the forest...Erinhue would have to depend on his familiarity of the old forest in its darken state...halting his horse, he waited for the others to catch up

All three made their way along side the Warrior by chance...'This is where the journey will be the most difficult...we will make our way thru the forest thus leading us to Amon Lanc...the ruins of Dol Guldur lie within her volcanic bowels'...Erinhue's eyes darkened as he spoke...as if remembering a time when all was not so peaceful in Mirkwood Forest...and the word Mordor was not a word he cared to speak of...'Other than Mordor...Dol Guldur remined the most feared for 2000 years...but, that fear has been laid to rest...at least for now'

he continued...'we will be riding along the narrow edges of the extinct volcano...I ask that you do not look down...keep your eyes on the road...this way it will guide you safely to the entrance of the ruins...we have no time to carry dead bodies back to Caras Galadhon'

Parador envision herself as one of the dead..she shook her head not wanting to think such a thing could happen...Nenya looked to her with a solemn look...turning to the Bard, he spoke...'We will follow your instructions explicitly Erinhue'...as he said this he rubbed EŠrglin's neck...then looked to Parador...he was glad she was riding Luinsul

Erinhue nodded...'The path in which I speak of will then lead us to the ruins of Dol Guldur where Radagast awaits us...we don't have much further to ride'

Idril shuttered as she spoke...'Then let us start...I have a bad feeling about this storm'...Erinhue looked over to Idril...his eyes bore the same concerns

Elbren

Radagast stared up into the grey sky and squinted his old eyes; where was this storm coming from? The wind had a voice and the cold had purpose, he could feel that.

He whistled suddenly and within moments a hawk had alighted upon a nearby branch.

This wind is angry Radagast said to the hawk, who nodded its proud head in agreement. I seek messengers from Caras Galadhon...Mithril Knights...seek them and send me word of their approach. They are friends, aid them if you must

The hawk screeched once in acknowledgemetn and then leapt into the air with the beating of his great wings. He circled once and then went in search of the messengers from the Elven city.

Parador~J

Erinhue took the lead as all four began their ascent up Amon Lanc's steep trail...Luinsul, a horse of great courage and loyalty, eased his way carefully along the narrow path...Parador looked straight ahead...Nenya rode cautiously behind Parador...the horses' hoof's echoed their approach as each made their way up the path that would take them to Dol Guldur

Idril looked up quickly...bringing her horse to a halt, she continued to search the skyline looking for the owner of the screeching voice...her eyes caught sight of the messenger...she knew the hawk was sent by Radagast...Erinhue stopped also, taking part in the search...he smiled...'Radagast sends us greetings'

This was good news for the four riders...they would soon be in the presence of the Istari...the hawk soared above the stalwart riders, encircling them...acting as a protector and a guide

The path continued its course, leading them closer to their destination...The entrance of the ruins rose above the shadows of the ancient walls...Erinhue dismounted his horse with the others following his lead...they all stood in reverence of what lay before them...not to venerate the evil that had once existed here...but, to celebrate the victory of peace for the lands of Middle Earth...it was a moment of encouragement to the heart

From the dusky shadows of the ruin's emerged a stately figure...the hawk flew to the Istari, landing gracefully on Radagasts cloakened arm...The two Mithril Knights were relieved to see the aging wizard...for being a ripe old age of over 2000 years...he didn't look a day over 500

Nenya took a step forward to get a closer look of the legendary wizard...he had heard tales of Radagast the Brown...even though Gandalf stood forefront of the tales of Middle~earth...there was something quiet and reserve about him...a treasure to behold and to be used...Radagast was full of knowledge and lore,...but, on this particular day...the knowledge he had to share and the package he held in his hands would be of great worth to the Mithril Knights

Back in Caras Galadhon...Elbren stood outside watching the storm roll in...an uneasiness crept over him...his thoughts turned quickly to the four knights

NenyaofDiadron

Radagast spoke to them as they approached... "Greetings, messengers of Caras Galadhon. I've been expecting you." He paused, taking a look at the sky once again. "That storm is unnatural, but it won't strike until at least tomorrow morning. You shall seek refuge in the cleansed halls of Dol Guldur." The knights nodded to the wizard, and he lead them into the bowels of the old dwarven city. The beautiful carvings and structure of the city remained, even after the dwarves eviction by Sauron's minions, and the cleansing by Galadriel.

The halls were pitch black, the only light was that of a clouded sky seaping through the cracks in the walls. Erinhue and Nenya unpacked supplies for a fire. They all sat quietly around the fire, listening to the echoes of the crackling flames. Idril and Erinhue counciled quietly together, across the fire Nenya sat with Radagast.

"It's been a while, Radagast. You are looking well, not a day over 500 I'd say." Nenya chuckled and Radagast grinned. "Not since my childhood in Eldamar have I seen that grin."

Nenya looked down at the package Radagast was holding, Radagast noticing this looks up to Nenya. "So you wish to become a Mithril Knight? And furthermore, when did you come to Middle-Earth? How and why did you leave?"

"Well, I've been here longer than you, my friend. As you may well know, I left Aman from Alqualonde after the Darkening. My father, founded a kingdom on one of the enchanted isles. Eventually, in the late secon age of Middle-Earth I left the kingdom and made my way for the first time to Middle-Earth, headed towards Lothlorien. After the Second Age, and my participation in the Last Alliance, an Order of Knights of Minas Tirith was formed to defend against the returning Sauron. Again, Sauron was defeated, and I ended up back in Lothlorien."

Radagast grunted, "Ah yes, so how is old Turnen doing? I should very much like to see him again. Truest elf you'll ever find."

Nenya looked down at the ground, he sighed... "My father...he is long since dead."

The conversation between the two continued, discussing things of long ago. Eventually, the fire died down. When they looked around, the others had fallen asleep. Nenya tossed another log on the fire and then lay out his bed. Radagast rustled through his pack, taking out a few blankets of his own, he rolled them out. He lay down with a sigh, quickly falling asleep. Nenya remained awake for a while, deep in thought. The next thing he knew, it was morning and everyone ws already up and about. Idril had nearly finished packing her sack, as had Erinhue. Parador sat next to Nenya on his spread, "You had a late night, melesnya." She smiled at Nenya. Nenya quickly looked around the room, seeing no sign of Radagast. Before he spoke, Parador answered... "He left early this morning, before any of us were awake. But he did prepare for us a breakfast, and left behind what we came here to find. You'd better get yourself up, else your breakfast will get cold."

Nenya ate, and quickly packed up his things. Slinging his pack around his shoulder, he followed the others out. They all fastened their packs to their steeds. Finally, Nenya noticed the package that Erinhue held in his hand. He looked up, seeing a hawk fly silently above them. He walked over to Luinsul, petting his mane before lifting Parador into his saddle. He quickly mounted his own horse, EŠrglin, and the fellowship of knights set out back home. They would ride quickly, and hopefully make it by dusk. The storm drew ever nearer, hovering over the plains of Rhovanion. They rode west, away from the golden light of the fresh sun.

erinhue

With the gold sun of morning at their backs, Erinhue, Idril, Parador and Nenya rode out from Dol Guldur. The early morning was shrouded in churning grays that smothered the light of the new day. They skirted the southern edge of Mirkwood at noontime but the sky held more of twilight in them.

The heart of the storm seemed to follow them and it was decided that to save time on the road they would again ride through the forest. Nudging Treble to a quicker pace, Erinhue wound through the trees following an pathway marked only in his memory. Several miles passed without event when Erinhue called a sudden halt to the small procession

Strung through the trees and stretching from the forest floor to high up into the leafy mantle was a thick curtain of diaphanous fibers woven to form a nearly solid barrier. Puzzled Erinhue altered their direction but after a short while they found themselves confronted by yet another, similar obstacle.

"Turn back!" Erinhue shouted, "It's a trap. Hurry, back the way we came." He dug a heel into Treble's side and wheeling quickly around the painted stallion started off at a gallop.

A loud rustling sound was coming towards them, rapidly, and there were sounds of hidden footsteps running in a direction designed to head them off. The four travelers urged their mounts onward, knowing that if they did not at least win to open ground, they had little chance of surviving the ambush.

Idril

Idril could not believe her eyes! There was a sudden wall that seemed to move WITH them as they did, to block their advancement. And then, suddenly it started to make its way towards them! She turned Thalion and was off with the others at a full out gallop.

"Ed' ’ear ar' elenea!" she exclaimed as they all took flight as quickly as they could. And then she tried a spell reversal that a wizard friend had taught her many ages ago.

"'Ksher 'Kshonna, wanya!" as she turned her head and yelled back at what was chasing them, to no avail.

Then she had an idea. To Erinhue she yelled

"Let's split up, maybe we can confuse it." But she was unsure that he could hear her over the pounding of the horse's hooves' and the sound of the thing behind them.

Parador~J

Nenya, hearing Erinhue's sharp warning to ride back to the clearing, immediatley looked to Parador...a chill ran down their spines...Parador heard Idril yell something to Erinhue...but, with the sound of the horse hoof's pounding the ground, words were of little use

Nenya yelled to her...'ride as fast as the wind will carry you Parador...I'll meet you in the clearing...the power surrounding us grows stronger...we are in grave danger...now, go!

She didn't hesitate...she knew what she had to do...her heart cried out has she left him behind...she trusted him...his courage & skills have helped them out of many perilous situations

Parador rode hard trying to catch up with Erinhue and Idril...the deafening sound of the horses' hoof's didn't stop her from hearing footsteps coming up behind her...she tried to look back but, thought it unwise...she kept her site on the clearing that was coming up fast...at the same time she wondered what Nenya was planning...her heart grew warm as she thought to herself...'he seemed to always have a plan'

Treble darted around a clumb of brush in a dash for the forest edge. Erinhue urged the painted stallion onward. He was well aware of the struggle going on behind him but he could not afford to slow down, not even to offer assistance to his companions. If the were trapped here they would not survive. While death was to be avoid when at all possible, it was most important that Elbern and the Mithril Knights receive the information from Radagast.

Clear land loomed ever nearer and would very soon be gained. Erinhu saw three riders in dark cloaks break from the treeline at an angle and vere to head off their escape.

Treble might perhaps outrun them but that would leave the others to certain entrapment and probable death. Bursting to free ground, Erinhue drew his sword preparing to keep the way cleared for his companions' escape.

The sword's fevered desire for blood and slaughter called to the wild spirit of the berserker slumbering within, but Erinhue resisted its urgings. Agarak hummed in his mind and kept his temper calm as he engaged and dispatched the first man to reach him. Two were eaiser to handle the bard said to himself as he battled the remaining riders. The sound of rapid hoof beats were coming closer and more cloaked riders broke from the trees.

Parador~J

Erinhue made for the clearing first...he unsheathed his sword as first of three riders broke out from the trees to the right of him...knowing the other knights were still in danger...he burst into the middle of the surprised riders...within seconds all three laid decapitated...the shocked expressions still on there faces

The sound of approaching horses brought more cloaked riders...the many out weighed the one...but, to Erinhue's relief, he spotted Idril and Parador tearing thru the treeline,...sword's in hand...the two knights were at his side within seconds

Each did their part of clearing the enemies from the area...Idril handled her sword with skill and precession...every stroke delivered a crushing blow...eliminating the merciless invaders one-by-one

Parador held her ground...TśrRuin hummed as the blade made contact with the enemy...a rider leaped from his horse grabbing her... throwing her off of Luinsul...she slammed hard against the ground...quickly regaining her senses she jumped to her feet taking TśrRuin with both hands...Parador wielded the sword of flame confidently... slicing into the air and back again...taking her adversary by surprise, she drove it deep into his rib cage...crushing his bones as it advanced through the other side...taking her foot she pushed against the lifeless body pulling her sword back the same way it entered

The dead lay scattered about with the smell of blood lingering in the air..finally gaining their composer...Idril rode up to Erinhue

'What kind of powerful magic was that back there!?...Thalion reared up on his hind quarters as Idril spoke, the horse was sensing danger still

Erinhue spoke quickly while his eyes darted for any sudden movement of more cloaked riders

'I fear whatever was trying to trap us and no doubt silence us forever, comes from another Age in Time...they were sent here to stop us from delivering the package to Elbren...we must find another way quickly, the longer we stand here talking the more dangerous it will become...we have lost precious time already'

Parador sheathed her sword...taking Luinsul's reins in her hands...she walked over to the Mithril knights as Erinhue finished speaking...Luinsul nudged his nose against her arm...she rubbed his neck and mane trying to sooth the beast of burden...she looked to both Erinhue and Idril

'Nenya is still back there...He is trying to divert attention away from us...we must find another path that will lead us out of here'

'Yes, that is what we were discussing'...he said anxiously...at that moment a familiar sound brought there spirits up...the welcomed hawk circled the three knights and then flew away in a southerly direction and back again,...the hawk screeched loudly

Idril spoke up...'he wants us to follow him!'...

Idril

Idril reached down her hand at the same time that she removed her foot from her stirup and Erinhue took her arm and swung up behind her. She then urged Thalion to gallop up to Treble and come to a quick halt beside him. Erinhue was quick to dismount and use a swinging mount to get on Treble so that they were off again so quickly it didn't seem to have even happened. It all took less than a heart beats worth of time. Then as they raced towards the clearing, Idril looked back to spy Nenya's whereabouts.

She saw that he was riding hard towards them and she made eye contact with him. She then nodded her head up towards the sky as she mentally told him to 'follow the hawk if you lose sight of us' and to also make sure he was alerted to the hawk and he nodded back at her a little stunned at the 'voice' in his mind. He continued to ride hard and keep the other's in his view.

Then Idril turned back to the task at hand and in a couple of moments turned to Erinhue to alleviate any of his concerns. She made eye contact with him also and then quickly spoke to his mind, as she knew he would not hear her shouting at him.

'Nenya is fine and follows us and the hawk. We must continue to Ride hard!' Erinhue was slightly shocked at the voice in his head but realized that Idril had no other means of communication at this speed and with all the noise from the horse's hooves'. He nodded and gave a slight smile, then turned back to the task of getting them all to safety alive. He hoped to find Radagast again and soon.

erinhue

Erinhue was a little startles to hear Idril's voice in his mind. He was used to hearing notes and music from Agarak, he had been hearing that all of his life, but a voice speaking words was something new.

The urgency behind her words sounded louder than her actual message and Erinhue responded to it by requesting greater speed from his mount.

Treble galloped onward. The intelligent steed followed the soaring hawk, freeing his rider's mind for thought.

A sense of forboding hung heavy over the bard's bright sprirt. They had to reach Elbren with the package and messages so the Knights could take up this latest mission. With the history of Beren and Luthien gone awry in the past any number of things could be forever changed in the present.

As they fled over the ground trying to keep pace with the hawk's flight through the skies, Erinhue tried to plot a course of action. Should they try to locate Radagast again? Should they try to seek out what sought to entrapp them? Should they return to the Guild House immediately? Erinhue had no answers for his own questions. Placing their fate in Iluvatar's hand, he decided they would follow the hawk for now and let that determine their course.

Parador~J

Blue flames blazed from beneath EŠrglin's hoof's as he galloped swiftly; rejoining Nenya to his companions ...riding up along side Parador, he was able to let her know all was ok...at least for now it was...looking over to Idril, he gestured a thank-you to her...she nodded and entered his mind again...'Welcome back Nenya, we are still following Radagast's hawk, take note that we are not out of danger yet...Whatever it was trying to stop us, will not be giving up so easily'...Nenya knew all to well she was right...what he had encountered back in the forest was more powerful than he had ever experienced...as they rode, he looked to Parador again, she felt his eyes penetrate her heart...he was grateful to Ilśvatar she was safe along with Idril and Erinhue

As the four knights rode in the direction of uncertainty...Erinhue began to tense up...something was not right...they were a few yards away from entering Mirkwood forest again when a thick mist began streaming across the land heading toward them...the screeching of a hawk echoed loudly reverberating the air...Parador felt a chill run down her spin...she grasp TśrRuin's hilt fervently

Nenya instinctively seized Celebanar...unsheathing the mighty Elven sword...he brought it forefront...Nenya, Parador, Idril and Erinhue halted their horses in unison...the mist was now gathering from all corners of the land, surrounding the brave knights...soon, all visibility would be cloaked

Idril

Idril could see that they were soon to be surrounded by this misty fog. She also knew that it was something to do with the other thing that had chased them. Without hestitation she looked to the heavens and not only prayed but looked for the hawk. He was right above them and she spoke to him.

"Help us to find our way and keep calling to me."

They were suddenly surrounded by the ground fog and to be sure that it didn't grow and blind them from each other, Idril pulled out a rope of Mithril and quickly had each horse's bridle strung through and on the line with each end tied to the saddle or person on that particular horse with her in the lead.

"Follow me and if this gets so thick that we can't see each other, we will not be lost from one another. Take heed of our placement and call out to each other, staying as close to each other as possible. If your horse's start to freak out, talk to them and if that doesn't work, you will have to dismount and cover their eyes and lead them as if they were in a fire. This is going to be time consuming so be careful. If you need to stop, give a tug on the rope."

And with that they were off following the hawk and watching as the fog grew thicker but stayed on the ground.

Parador~J

Erinhue rode quietly...he was becoming increasingly agitated by the turn of events...it was obvious someone or something was trying to prevent them from accomplishing their mission

Their feathery guide took the lead as they entered Mirkwood Forest once again...the thick fog had now spread itself throughout the area...a sense of uneasiness and danger permeated the air...all four were on high alert...their senses finely tuned enabling them to take action quickly

The forest floor was covered in fallen leaves...the sound of the horse hoof's shuffling through them helped to ease their tension somewhat

Luinsul was the first to take notice of something brushing against him...then EŠrglin felt it...both horses became spooked and began to prance around nervously...'Luinsul'...Parador called to him gently patting him on his neck to ease his tension...'what is it boy?...she looked up...' something watching us...I can feel it'...Nenya rode up along side her...he took the nose bridge of the bridle into his hand and continued to lead them both along

This time it was Treble who felt the entity as it crashed head on into the horse... rearing up on his hind legs and pawing the air,...Erinhue was thrown backwards off the horse hitting the ground

Idril quickly called to the hawk...'go and send word to Ragdagast; tell him we are in need of his help, and that we are in grave danger...fly swiftly hawk friend'...the hawk was gone before Idril could get off her horse...she ran to Erinhue to see if he was alright...picking himself up,...he unsheathed his sword and yelled

'Show yourself coward!...make yourself known to us if you dare!...beads of sweat dripped down the side of his face...'We have an appointment with destiny, and we intend to keep it'!

Nenya jumped down from his horse unsheathing Celebanar...watching his back side he encircled the area, coming up next to Erinhue...Parador and Idril both had their sword's in hand

The invisable force taunting the knights came up behind Erinhue pushing him forward...he flew around only to face Nenya...his eye locked into the squire's...he gripped the handle tighter waiting for Nenya to strike...but, the Elven warrior only looked at him puzzled

Then it happened all at once...Parador's sword came out of her hand and thrown to the ground...she leaped off her horse to retrieve it, but was pulled back forcefully landing her painfully on to her back...Idril felt herself being picked up and was thrown against a tree...Erinhue yelled...'Pull in!...all of you pull together in a circle, now!

Idril, after getting her breath back, pulled herself up and staggered over to Erinhue...Parador came to her feet quickly and joined them...Nenya grabbed her pulling her along side of him...they created a circle looking outward to the unscene enemy...Erinhue felt his anger rising...to battle against many ememies was one thing, but to battle against even one that he could not see was a whole other matter

Suddenly above them came the enemy mind...power driving down on top the brave knights...Nenya and Erinhue crashed into one another...bewildered and staring into the beautifully etched metal Nenya reached out touching the Bard's acursed sword...its razor sharp edge glistening the reflection off of the Elven Warrior

Idril

With their backs to one another and a circle formed, Idril took a moment to speak in Sindarin to all the horse's, to calm their nervousness and her own.

"Voronwerea Dina. Ela Iye. Nurta. Tira ten' rashwe! Asca."

The horse's moved off together in unison and out of any harms way and without fear now that Idril had calmed their minds. They would wait close enough to hear her whistle for them. Since the unseen creature was not intent upon the steads, it let them move off without taking notice of the direction that they went. It was focused on the Mithril Knights and what they were doing. Idril was now becoming mad and to encourage the others she said

"Gurth goth rim Iye!" And then she tried something that a wizard friend had taught her when attacked by an unknown entity.

" 'Ksherea 'Kshonnarim, wanya" but nothing seemed to happen but to arouse the anger of whatever the entity was. The fight began in earnest.

Elbren

Elbren stood within the grand chamber of the Guild House, deep within the heart of Lothlorien's capital city, Caras Galadhon. He was disturbed, for he had dreamt every night of the Silmarils. He knew that time was pressing; they had to set forth soon.

He had asked Orodreth and Tempest to help him prepare the grand chamber as an Initiation Room; there was not time to journey to the South and the Initiation House. All along the walls, torches flickered, creating dancing shadows upon the stone. In each corner stood a censer where herbs and resins burned and smoked. The Mithril cloaks for the two new members had been woven and prepared with the chants and runes; they now hung upon the South wall in anticipation of their new owners.

Yet, Elbren knew that all had not gone well for the quest. The wood was troubled and the winds had brought tidings that did not bode well.

Dressed in a silver robe, crowned with a silver and gold filet, and belted with woven silver, Elbren stood with his head bowed. He prayed for their safe and timely return.

Elbren

A blinding flash of light screeched through the wood, followed by a peal of thunder that had the horses rearing and tearing their paws at the air. A horrible metallic smoke billowed forth making their eyes sting. A great gust of wind bent the trees and, for a moment, the trees seemed alive with movement. A cry of anger and despair came next and then quickly faded.

The brief but powerful tempest settled and a stillness came over the Mithril Knights. From the trees then stepped Radagast, clothed in his brown, faded robes, and in his hand they could clearly see the fading light of the power crystal upon his Istari Staff.

"Well," the wizard said, shrugging and adjusting his frumpled cloak, "that was a nasty business. Are you all alright?"

When no one readily replied, Radagast eyed them curiously, "It's a good thing that I came along when I did. There aren't too many of those still hovering near Dol Guldur, but every now and again they get brave and try to return to their old home. I tried to sing a few away like ole Bombadil does, but I don't sing very well...and besides, the thunder and lightning seems to work nicely."

Radagast motioned for them all to dismount, "Let me look you over and make sure that there's nothing amiss here. I detest the Wights myself, but it's only natural that some are scattered here and yon."

Once satisfied that they were sound enough to journey, the wizard decided that he would travel with them back at least as far as the river, "I will go with you in case there are others. They won't cross the water, Wights fear it, as do most dark things, and then we will see where my path takes me."

Parador~J

Erinhue was the first to mount his horse...he had hardly spoken a word since Radagast's timely entrance...the aging wizard's magic layed the fevered sword to rest...or so it seemed...thus allowing the warrior by chance to calm his spirit down...Nenya had no idea how close he came to escaping the blood lust of Erinhue's accursed sword

Erinhue spoke in a quiet tone,

'Thank-you Radagast, we are indebted to your service old friend'

'yes, Idril spoke up taking the wizard's worn and gentle hand into her's...'we are grateful for your help Radagast...and please, thank our Hawk friend for us...he saved our live's giving you our message of our plight'

Parador reached out to the Isitari wizard to thank him also...and then Nenya too came over to share in the gratitude...Radagast, not being used to so much attention pulled back from the three humbled knights...'now, now...enough of this round robin...we must be going'...straightening his robe and fiddling with his staff...he looked back to the knights and then up to Erinhue who was sitting patiently on his horse...'besides'...with a twinkle in his eye...'too much attention can ruin a good wizard...throws his magic off'...holding his staff in one hand, and lifting his other into the air...out of the veil of the blue sky's appeared the hawk, landing magestically on Radagast's arm...'come, come...our time is precious'

It was not long before they reached the outer edge's of Mirkwood Forest...a hundred mile stretch still lay between them and Caras Galadhon...The clear skies allowed the golden rays of Arda's sun to rest upon the traverlers back's

Erinhue halted his horse and spoke...'we still have a full day's ride ahead of us making us late arrivals' to Cara Galadhon...Radagast, our pace will be picking up considerably...do you wish to ride one of our horses?...we can double up'

'No Erinhue...I will have no need for a horse'...winking to the Bard and then looking to the horizon...'The skies are clearing, this is a good sign...go my friends...my eyes will be upon you for the rest your journey...and do give my regards to Elbren...tell him.'..the Isitari wizard smiled warmly...'we will meet again soon'

They bid Radagast good bye and took to the last leg of their journey in a somber mood'...dusk and then darkness paved the way for the four 'driven' knights...after crossing the Anduin...neither knight questioned a need to rest...the spirit of endeavor kept them going until they reached the gates of Caras Galadhon

Elbren

Elbren greeted Erinhue, Idril, Parador, and Nenya as they entered the Lothlorien Guild House. They looked weary and he listened patiently to the full tale of their adventure.

"You have done well," he smiled when they were finished speaking, "and now, you must rest. Parador and Nenya, you must prepare yourselves for your visionquest; Erinhue and Idril, you must prepare for our journey to the First Age. Come! I will show you to your rooms, Parador and Nenya, and there you may bathe and rest. You will be summoned at midnight."

Elbren himself led the two potential Initiates to private and separate quarters near the rear of the Guild House. He pointed down a long, shadowy corridor, "You will be summoned and walk this path to the double doors at the end of the hall. Do not bring weapon or armor and dress comfortably. You will be fed now, but after this meal, you must not eat until afterwards." Elbren paused before he stepped away, "Oh, no matter what you hear or see, do not leave this room until you are summoned to enter the Initiation chamber."

When they entered their rooms, they found a fire blazing in the hearth and a meal of hot meats and breads on a small table. A comfortable bed with fresh linen was also prepared.

As the sun set that day and they lay down to rest, the distant sounds of battle horns, horses' screams, sword upon sword, the twang of bows, the scream of dragons, the dreadful cries of horrid, nameless things...the distinct clanging of metal gates resounded through the house, leaving the Guild invitees wondering what was in store for them.
